Watford City, North Dakota
Collage (at left) links to a photo-gallery of our trip to Watford City, North Dakota. You should consider visiting Watford City if only to stay at the The Roosevelt Inn and Suites. This is a great family owned business. The building itself began as one of the big national hotel chains. Watford City is in the Williston of North Dakota; a large oil producing region. During the 1990s this region began to slow down economically. The hotel closed and the building was purchased by Marty Mulder. His family significantly added to the building, including an addition that serves as their home. Marty and his wife Crystal have a fantastic respect for history -- the hotel is like a museum with memorabilia of the life and times of Teddy Roosevelt and the regions natural history.
This is a family friendly as well as family owned hotel. Very relaxing -- the owners are easy to talk to and you recognize how much they enjoy the region and Watford City.
Less than 20 miles south of Watford City is the North Dakota Badlands. You can visit this incredible place by going to Theodore Roosevelt, National Park, North Unit. Again, this is a great place for a family to visit. My photographs do not do this place justice, so try to visit it yourself.
