De Rerum Novarum

FIRST OF ALL, long live Pope Francis! The above painting (P.S. Krøyer’s Hip, hip, hurra! Kunstnerfest på Skagen) sums up my feelings pretty well. I was naturally as surprised as anyone by the recent abdication of Pope Benedict XVI. All I can say is that I wish our former Roman Pontiff all of the best [...]

Music video sketches

Drawn while watching Put A Lid On It by the Squirrel Nut Zippers and The Cave by Mumford & Sons.

A guy with a mostache

I come up with very creative titles for these posts, don’t I?

March for Life trip 2012

I’m back from my trip! In the six days I was gone I had a chance to pray, think, observe, draw, meet some wonderful people, and ultimately, take part in the March for Life (the gigantic Pro-Life demonstration that seems to mysteriously evade the media’s attention each year). Some people, a robot with a gun, and a sketchbook monster for good measure

Getting Colder

On the bright side, all of the bugs are dying.

Rumpole the Rustbucket

I’m trying to improve my watercolor scanning skills, which (as of this posting) amount to about nil.

painting outside

Today I decided to have a go at painting something that exists in real life. I definitely need some practice. As I was painting the house with the chimney, this robin came within a few feet of me. I think he was trying to retrieve a cracker, or something, from the lawn. Right now none of the [...]

February Sketches

Great Scott! A post! Two weeks ago I got a new sketchbook. On Tuesday I filled it. Out of the 200 pages of rubbish which I hope nobody (including myself) shall ever see again, there stand these few triumphs. Mr Toad: “I say you fellows!” Puddles: Back on February 16th, we got some nice, splashy, [...]
